Travertine - Brixton

Travertine is a luxurious natural stone formed by minerals carried by super-heated,  geothermal water. (visualize Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming). It’s forced through limestone deposits deep in the crust of the Earth. Over the centuries, minerals such as silica and iron crate the distinctive veining and marble characteristics that make this stone a desirable building product.

The surface of the stone can be filled and sealed to close the pores and pits found in its natural state. It has a hardness lever equal to marble and can be either polished or hones to create your preferred luster level. Once quarried, Travertine can be shaped into a multitude of sizes from large slabs to intricate mosaics. Hence, this makes it very versatile in the design of kitchen and bath floors and back splashes. This natural stone was used by the Romans to build the iconic Roman Coliseum.

Travertine - Fidenza

Travertine is durable and will stand up to heavy traffic in your home. Once sealed it will repel most common household spills. Although acidic liquids and cleaners should be avoided. Travertine stone cleaner makes maintenance manageable. Being a natural stone, which has to be harvested from the Earth, then shaped and shipped from overseas, Travertine will cost more than a typical ceramic or porcelain tile which are mass produced. This cost will be offset by the unique beauty and range of shades consisting of tan, white, grey, gold and rusty reds.

Travertine - Sandalo

Travertine is available in four major finishes: polished, honed, brushed, or tumbled. The type of finish given to the surface determines how glossy or textured the surface will be. Polished and honed surfaces are smooth, while brushed and tumbled surfaces are slightly rough and textured. The most common finish for Travertine in residential applications is honed. This smooth matte finish mutes light, resulting in a natural but untextured appearance.
