Our relationship with this couple, as with most, began with a phone call requesting an estimate for a custom bathroom remodel. Simple enough, we’ve done this dozens of times…
The Cape Cod style home had a first floor master bedroom with a bathroom across the hall. The existing master bedroom was generous in size for a Cape Cod but needed more natural light. Our clients requested more closet space and an attached custom contemporary master bath with separate shower and soaking tub. In addition, they wished to relocate the laundry from the unfinished basement to the first floor and create a new powder room.
The solution was to move the master bedroom door over three feet. This allowed us to take a few feet from the hall and the adjacent bedroom (and closet area) to create two closets and the master bath. The existing hall bath was divided into a laundry room and powder room. A transom window was installed over the headboard in the master to let in more light.
The client had specific needs for the custom master bath; a large shower with as much natural light as possible and a soaking tub which could accommodate his over 6’ frame and the small 5’ stature of his wife. The shower was in the corner with two exterior walls, which left one location for the plumbing. We boxed the plumbing in a center column, wrapped it in tile and installed glass on either side to let in as much light as possible. A lava stone bathtub from Victoria & Albert was selected and paired with Sigma faucets in an oil rubbed bronze finish. Antique white painted and glazed cabinetry was topped with granite. This same granite was used to top the bench seat in the shower.
What started as a phone call developed into a standing appointment for over a year. Each Saturday were greeted at 8 am with fresh croissants from the local market bakery. We revised plans, made selections and adjusted estimates to keep within the budget. As the job progressed and our relationship grew, this couple decided to start working on their next project…a full custom kitchen remodel!
